[ She whispers the words and sniffles. She'd lost track of Susan at the end, her hand slipping right out of her granddaughter's grasp. It's the last thing Clara can remember about that life, and she can't even bring herself to tell the Doctor, she hasn't forgiven herself for it. ]
We can remember them today. But they wouldn't want us to be sitting here in puddles, either.

[He tries to bring up her mood slightly even if he feels like his own hearts tightening. It was an absolute nightmare living in a household full of people that constantly roasted each other and by nightmare, the Doctor definitely meant a joy.]

We made a damn good team. Still do. We weren't supposed to want any of this, we were supposed to be above this sort of life. But we were always the different ones.

Oh, jury's still out. Still could happen. Sleep with one eye open, dear.

One of these days you're going to slap me so hard that I regenerate.
[It had happened before to an old classmate of theirs and they had never let him live it down.]
no subject
Do you remember- [ She barely gets it out before she's laughing again, knowing he does and pressing her forehead to his shoulder as shakes with it. It's better than crying and she hasn't remembered this in centuries. ]
The sound of that slap. It echoed.

But the person he wants to run to is here beside him, so there's nothing left to do but reminisce about the good times they'd had too. And if he's being honest Clara laughing is better than her tears. Soon enough his laugh is mingling with hers.]
Honestly he deserved it. He was being such a bampot, thinking he could get away with teasing her like that.

But she takes his hand once they're standing and walks out of the room with him, closing the door gently. She wants to do something with all of their memories, but for now, it's time to do what they always do. ]
Let's go. Anywhere. Tell the TARDIS to take us anywhere there's a distress beacon. It's what we do.
[ Clara smiles, the words last spoken to him on a Russian submarine. ]

Anywhere it is.
[And he leads the charge towards the console room, pulling the buttons and levers. They've had their downtime. Their short reprieve of relaxation and peace was good for them and good for him, but he knows that his body is itching for adventure, for helping people, for adrenaline. Soon enough a distress signal comes in, somewhere in the 1800's France.
His eyes flash with delight as he looks over at Clara, motioning for her to take the lever.]
How do croissants along the Seine sound after this?
no subject
Oui, monsieur. [ And then she pulls and they're off, landing only a short time later. She grabs him for a quick kiss before walking to the door and stepping out only to pause and look around. ]
...I see why we're here.
[ It's obviously France, but the streets are abandoned and every surface is covered in a white, cotton-like but sticky material. Clara begins to walk slowly down the sidewalk. ] This is downright chilling. What-
[ Before she can finish there's a loud whisper from a window. "Miss, they'll see you. Get inside." She has no idea what the person is talking about. Not until she sees the giant flipping spider that begins making its way down a lamppost. ]
No. No way, I'm so angry this is spiders. You talk to it.
[ And that's when she steps behind her husband, but she does peer out from behind his back. ]
no subject
But before he can suggest it further he spots what she sees. He seems mildly amused at the scene before them but it has more to do with Clara's reaction.]
You did say any distress signal. Why don't we change first and then see what we can do about the nasty spiders, hm?
no subject
[ She shoves him back inside but she can't hide how excited she is for this and she races to the wardrobe. When she's finished. she's wearing a fashionable green dress. ]
How's this then? [ She does a little turn for him, hair pinned up so she can put on the hat. ]
no subject
Stunning as usual.
[He strides over to her, taking the hat from her hands to place it on her curls. Donning his own hat, he takes her hand in his pressing a brief kiss to it before offering her his arm.]
Shall we go figure out what these flair spiders are like?
no subject
[ She grabs an umbrella out of the stand on the way out to complete her look and also knock spiders out of the way if needed. ]
So, I'm gonna guess...giant nest somewhere close by and the eggs've hatched. You go.
[ Even as they talk, her eyes are looking around for spiders skittering too close. ]
no subject
[He pushes open the door back onto the street peering through the crack. The giant spider that Clara had seen earlier didn't seem to be there anymore. He tentatively pushes out, urging Clara along as well while bringing out his sonic screwdriver as well.
After a quick scan he squinted at the reading.]
You were right about the flair, Clara. They are and they aren't from. They've been mutated by something else. A mutation gene gone haywire. We can track it back to the nest but we should figure out how best to shrink them. Or something.
no subject
no subject
We could hypothetically. But what we'd need is less of a capsule and more of a shrink ray. It would need be strong enough to blast all of them at once. The sonic could do it as long as we have a powerful enough power source or something to amplify it.
no subject
Could you take care of that? [ She hates spiders so, so much. ] I personally do not want to be eaten by a giant spider, Doctor.
no subject
[And then he spots the Eiffel tower off in the distance but he's so focused on his revelation that he fails to notice the spider.]
That's it! We'll use that to amplify it out.
no subject
[ She loves making him blush but before she can see his reaction the spider moves fast and before she can call out it's jumping at her face. Her arm blocks it but it latches on and she shouts. ]
Doctor! [ This is the worst and it's disgusting, but it's digging itself into her skin and she can't get ot off. ]
no subject
Clara!
[The spider is the size of a baby calf and slobbering all over her. He flips the setting of the sonic screwdriver to a bright light.]
Oi, pretty boy! [The spider looks up from Clara hissing, its pincers clicking and opening furiously just as the light hits its eyes. It screeches, immediately scuttling off back into the alleyways. The Doctor rushes to Clara's side, helping her up.]
Are you okay? Are you hurt?
no subject
No, I'm alright. I think I am. [ She isn't. But her eyes move back up to his. ]Eiffel Tower?
