There's a deeper frown at the mention of the undead, and this time, there's a moment of a memory—nothing but water. ]
Why does it feel like something awful happened?
[ Her hand moves away from Red's cheek to her own chest. Her heart isn't beating, she doesn't need her lungs, and yet they still feel like they're burning with the need for a deep breath. ]
I...left you, didn't I?
[ Red curls like a cloud in Clara's hand, concern from the other woman, kisses, more worry, and more kisses. This isn't just a random woman who has memories of Clara, and the thought simultaneously makes her cautious and thrilled at the prospect. She's been alone for seemingly so long, and yet here's someone ready to blow the lid off of what Clara thinks she knows. ]
sobbing
She hasn't figured out what's going on with her exactly, because she's so amazed at the sight of her, the sound of her voice, the way she is looking at her right now.
Something strangles in her throat at the question, but she nods with eyes burning in answer. Her own hand reaches out. Her fingertips brush along the outside of her hand where it rests against her own chest. )
Yeah. There were these beacons. We were trying to find them so we could- so most of the group could go back to their worlds if they wanted to, and one day, you were just gone.
You wouldn't have gone without at least saying goodbye first so it must've just- must've swept you up.
( She swallows again through that pain rattling around in her chest as her fingers interlock with Clara's against her chest. And now she's realizing the terrible silence within her: ) Something happened to you too, huh?

I wouldn't leave you, not like that. Never without a goodbye.
[ She isn't the Doctor in that regard, quite the opposite in fact. Her hand stays firm in Red's, letting the question sink in. More memories are creeping to the surface, like fingertips brushing the surface of water and trying to break through. ]
You knew me when I was alive.
[ Clara isn't asking a question, and she hasn't directly answered Red's, but she's remembering. ]
That was so long ago. But you saw me, didn't you? We met after I showed up in that place, and you knew me, right away.
[ She's trying to hold onto this feeling, to cling to it. She remembers a version of Red, seemingly much younger, but it never mattered. Red looked at her and knew more about Clara in an instant than anyone else. ]
I'd only sort of died then.
[ Her voice breaks a little, and she steps so close her forehead is against Red's. She doesn't recall everything yet, but it's enough to start. ]
I'm sorry I left.
